Is USGBC Discontinuing Legacy LEED AP Support?

LEED AP

I hold a legacy LEED AP credential and recently heard that USGBC would be "discontinuing support" of this credential? Does this mean I will no longer hold my LEED AP credential if I don't upgrade, or does it mean that I will simply no longer be listed in the USGBC national directory? USGBC has repeatedly stated that legacy LEED APs will never lose their credential. Please clarify, thanks.

Hi Rob, thanks for your question about legacy LEED APs (LEED APs without specialty).

USGBC is "discontinuing support" of the LEED AP credential, as EDC reported. You will not have to forfeit your credential, but your name will be removed from the GBCI directory. In the next version of LEED, LEED v4, you will no longer add an extra Innovation in Design point for working on the project. This point will only be available to LEED APs with specialty in v4.

If you would like to add a specialty, USGBC has created a free program for LEED APs without specialty who would like to upgrade. You can enroll in the Principles of LEED webinar series, which is a set of 6 self-paced modules. Once you complete the modules, you will be awarded a specialty.
