LEED Project Experience

The program is designed for the green building professional who, due to geographic challenges, or other constraints, is unable to secure work on a LEED Registered Project. The program is perfect for professionals who seek to go beyond the basics to gain a deeper level of understanding of LEED, the core concepts, fundamental credit strategies and their intents and the various phases of LEED certification.

Online Live Program

Over the period of four weeks, each team member may participate in the project via online webinar from virtually anywhere. Participants who complete the program will gain valuable experience and fulfill their eligibility to become a LEED AP.

The program meets via online webinar (GoToMeeting) one per week for four weeks starting at 5:30 PM (Pacific Time). Each session lasts approximately 1 hour. Participants will engage in discussions, work through problems, accomplish various tasks, assist in project documentation, complete take-home assignments and provide feedback. Each participant's work on the project is documented in the form of a Letter of Attestation from Alex Spilger, the project team leader.

To help prepare for the LEED AP exam, each participant receives online exam simulators and a downloadable (PDF) practice test for their chosen LEED credential.

About the LEED Project Leader

Alex Spilger, founder of GreenStep and the LEED project experience team leader, has consulted for Google, AirBnB, Skype, Oracle and many other companies to help them achieve LEED certification for their buildings and meet their sustainability goals.

He has worked on over 40 diverse LEED projects and taught over 300 green building workshops to over 5,000 professionals through organizations such as local chapters of the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and American Institute of Architects (AIA), the Sustainable Building Advisors Program and the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business among others. He has also developed curriculum for UC Berkeley Extension where he teaches a 6-week LEED Project Management course. His experience includes facilitating eco-charrettes, researching green building technologies and policy, and managing both the people and the processes involved with taking projects through LEED Certification.

Alex is an active member of the Northern California Chapter of the USGBC and serves on the USGBC Corresponding Committee for LEED-EBOM. He is also founding board member of GreenLaces.org, a non-profit committed to leveraging the visibility and influence of athletics to create positive change for the planet. Alex is a LEED Accredited Professional with specialties in BD+C, ID+C & EBOM, a USGBC NCC Faculty member, a Certified Green Building Professional, an AIA Continuing Education Provider, HERS Rater and holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from UCLA.
