Process Water: What is it?

Process water is water that is used for industrial processes and building systems, such as cooling towers, boilers, and chillers. It can also refer to water used in operational processes, such as dishwashing, clothes washing, and ice making.

In LEED, the intent of process water use reduction is to maximize water efficiency within buildings to reduce the burden on municipal water supply and wastewater systems, and to reduce or eliminate the use of potable water for non-potable process use in building system equipment.
