Green building hashtags are an important way to gain new Twitter followers in the industry.
On Monday, Mamusu Tucker wrote about how to add Twitter followers on #ecomonday, the green version of #followfriday. While #ecomonday is a great hashtag to use on Mondays, especially for shout outs, there are a number of other hashtags related to green building that can be effective in gaining followers and connecting with members of the industry.
I used Hashtags.org, a site dedicated to collecting Twitter hastag usage data, to find out which green building-related hashtags are popular. Hashtags.org allows you to see a hashtag's estimated usage over the last 24 hours for free, though you can pay to upgrade and track hashtags over longer periods of time.

Next time you tweet, try using these hashtags to promote it to a more targeted audience. Avoid hashtags that have little or no trending power. For example, I found that #greenbldg had zero hits, so save your characters for a better hashtag, like #energy or #leed.
Happy tweeting!
