Water Use Reduction is an important Prerequisite that all LEED projects must comply with. It is also an important credit. In order to document this credit for our project, project teams must enter the correct information into the LEED Credit Form calculator including FTE, design flush & flow rates and annual days of operation.
The goal of the Water Efficient Landscaping Credit is not to reduce landscaped area, but rather to implement water efficient landscaping practices such as drought tolerant plant species and drip irrigation.
Lighting power density is the Watts of lighting per square foot (psf) of room floor area (W/sf). By reducing lighting power density through better lighting design and more efficient fixtures, a project can save a great deal of energy. Lighting makes up 12% of electricity consumption in the U.S., making it an important component of energy efficient building. LEED aims to control energy use for lighting by requiring reduced lighting density.
Optimize Energy Performance is an essential credit addressing energy efficiency in LEED. The energy model process is critical to any ground up or major renovation project and is worth more points than any other LEED Credit.
A healthy indoor environment is an important component to a green workspace and has been shown to increase employee productivity. Natural daylight, in particular, has been shown to have a positive correlation on employee well being and satisfaction in the workplace.
Specifying high-recycled content materials reduces the demand on raw materials while at the same time reducing the waste stream. On LEED projects, specifying recycled content materials is the easy part; tracking and documenting the pre and post consumer recycled content of each product can be a challenge.
