LEED GA exam for LEED AP BD+C

Can you take LEED GA exam when you are a LEED AP BD+C?

The answer I got from GBCI after calling three times is consistantly NO

You are not allowed to take LEED GA when you are already a LEED AP BD+C.

If you voluntarily give up your speciality (BD+C or any other) and become LEED AP than you can take LEED GA and start from the bottom of the ladder. I even logged in My Credentials and I cannot select to take LEED GA- I can only select to take other specialities. Please comment!

Hi Baani,

Thanks for posting this. I am confused, because I called GBCI about this twice. The first time, I asked if a legacy LEED AP (with no specialty) can take the Green Associate exam without losing their AP credential, and they said YES - they will never lose the AP.

The second time I called, I asked if a LEED AP with specialty (i.e. BD+C) took the Green Associate exam, would they lose the AP credential - and they said no, they would not lose it.

It seems like GBCI is giving conflicting advice on this subject.

Of course, most LEED APs (legacy or specialty) will not have this problem, because there is no reason to take the Green Associate exam once you're an AP. This is really for people who work for LEED exam prep companies or want to become LEED trainers and want to practice taking the Green Associate exam.

Has anyone taken the Green Associate exam AFTER the LEED AP and lost or kept their credential?
