The increase in tiny house living really isn’t a trend, but rather a full on a movement. It’s garnering traction all across the US and nearly every news resource – from NPR to Forbes - is taking note.

So I shouldn't have been surprised when I came across a movie trailer for the 2015 film Minimalism and related tweets about its tiny-house-featuring content? Of course not. But I was, and subsequently did a deep dive into everything I could find on the film and its producers, known as The Minimalists.

Sadly, there’s little to be had on the documentary itself, aside from this lovely trailer.

That said, it seems fair to assume that it will cover the same perspective that The Minimalists, Joshua Fields Millburn and Ryan Nicodermus, live, breath, and wrote about in their book Everything That Remains.

Long story short, both fellas were big shot youngsters, pulling in six figure incomes and living lives of sheer luxury by the time they were 25. The only problem was that their existence wasn’t fulfilling. “We weren’t happy. There was a gaping void,” their site reads. So in 2011, the two men did what many would consider to be the unthinkable and abandoned the capitalist mentality in pursuit of a life defined not by what they owned but rather by how happy they were, as they describe below.

After purging “excess stuff” and living in a Montana cabin for four months, they realized that having less actually meant having more – more time, more joy, more life. They’ve since continued to embrace the minimalist lifestyle and promote similar thinking in others through their own writing as well as their indie publishing company.

Currently, they’re on a 4-country, 100-city tour promoting their new book, and sometime next year their documentary will make a welcome debut to tiny house dwellers and others of the minimalist movement.
