As Duke professor Dan Ariely discusses, people are most likely to behave in a certain way if other people are doing it. “We have three approaches to convince people to be energy efficient: 1) it will save them money, 2) it helps the environment, or 3) other people are doing it.” Reason 3 is the most effective.
