Why RePly May Just Be the Coolest Furniture Maker

When it comes to eco-friendly furniture, the reality is that you have hundreds, if not thousands, of options at your fingertips. This is a great problem, as it suggests that there’s a growing demand for green furniture. A very cool, uber eclectic manufacturer out of Tacoma, WA, rePly is the pride and joy of woodworker Steven Lawler. After tinkering with the applicability of salvaged plywood in the furniture making process for nearly three years, Lawler decided to launch rePly as a green furniture producer that is redefining chairs, tables, clocks and more as high-quality, hand-crafted upcycled art. Essentially, he takes dozens of pieces of plywood binds them together to create beautifully variegated planks, and then details the resulting furniture with other types of reclaimed materials.

rePly launched a 30-day kickstarter campaign last fall and while they were only able to raise roughly half the capital they set out to, Lawler was able to drum up a total of 67 backers - no small feat.

Strathman Sideboard: Featuring a wide variety of materials, colors and patterns, this 3-drawer, 3-door cabinet is sure to get any houseguest or visitor talking. Of all rePly’s pieces, this one is arguably the most effective at straddling the invisible boundary between art and furniture. Ottoman: With each side composed of two different sections of variegated wood juxtaposed against one another, this 20”x20”x18” ottoman is a real eye popper. The neutral colored pillow top (which could easily be swapped out to a color more fitting of your room’s style), opens up to reveal a full square foot of secret storage. The bulky walnut feet are the perfect finish to the visual masterpiece. Cost is $600.

Glass-Topped Coffee Table: This variegated beauty is fully reminiscent of 1950’s/1960’s design, offering unquestionable functionality with a large 29”x26” interior shelf. The tempered glass top serves as just the right balance to the charmingly tapered Jatoba legs, and the best part is that it’s currently being offered at a 50% discount for only $600!
