Xavier Hairston-Khan is the Sustainability Engineer at Turner Construction Company and a LEED O+M Accredited Professional. His responsibilities include assisting with developing and implementing sustainable policies and procedures for Turner’s national and international operations, green building training, operational oversight and sales support.

Xavier has an MS in Civil Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University from the AIS program with a focus in Global Sustainable Construction. To date he has accumulated five years of construction management experience including K-12 schools, interior fit-outs on high rise buildings, sporting facilities and stadiums, and various sustainable infrastructure across the globe. He is an active member the USGBC New York Chapter and an Ambassador to the International Living Future Institute in the greater New York City area.

Xavier assists Michael Deane, VP & Chief Sustainability Officer, with his writings and speaking engagements which are frequently about sustainability and in particular the builder’s role in delivering green buildings. In 2012, he started assisting Adelphi University with assessing their Carbon Footprint following the Carbon Disclosure Project framework. In 2012, Michael was named Recycler of the Year by the Construction Materials Recycling Association based on the program that Michael implemented called Online Waste Tracking in 2005 which Xavier serves as his National Manager for the program. In 2011 fourth quarter, Turner had reported 1,000,000 million tons of waste diverted from landfills!

As of July 2012 Turner had 273 LEED certified projects and 275 LEED registered projects completed or under way totaling more than 115 million square feet and valued at more than $31 billion.
