Recycled/reused waste airplane tires

Hi, thanks for your question concerning reused or recycled airplane tires. By definition, an item that is “reused” is something that is no longer being used for its intended purpose and is being used for something else, like an old shirt being used as a rag to wash your car. When an object is recycled, it is broken down into its basic components or raw materials and is then manufactured into a new object.An example of this would be a glass or plastic bottle, or aluminum can being recycled to make new bottles and cans, or even something else made of glass, plastic or aluminum. Reusing an item doesn’t require any additional energy or have any adverse effect on the environment, whereas recycling means that additional resources and energy are used to produce an item out of something else. While recycling is still more environmentally friendly than simple manufacturing of a new item, reusing is the more “green” or sustainable option. In your particular case, if you are simply using the discard airplane tires as wheels for a cart, I would consider this to be reusing the discarded tires. It would only be recycling if you took the old tires and broke them down into their raw components and produced a new cart wheel out of them. Best of luck! Dave
